BayCare is expanding its pediatric emergency care services at Winter Haven Hospital in Polk County. The hospital is introducing its fourth pediatric-specific unit in the health system, aiming to improve emergency care for children in the community.
Winter Haven Hospital has updated parts of its Emergency Department with designs tailored for children, including artwork featuring underwater sea life. The enhancements include three ER treatment rooms, a dedicated area in the ER waiting room, one triage room, and three emergency department observation rooms. These changes are intended to make the environment more welcoming for young patients. In addition to the redesign, the hospital is adding pediatric emergency department observation services and telehealth support.
These updates are part of a broader initiative to address the increasing demand for pediatric services in Polk County. The newly decorated rooms are set to open on October 21.
Marta Mendoza, director of Emergency Services at Winter Haven Hospital, said, “The pediatric population in our area is continuing to grow. Knowing this, it is important to ensure that the pediatric patients and their families receive the care they need while being able to stay close to home.”
