Mary Bryan, the City of Tampa’s longest-serving employee, will be honored at a special event on August 1 at the Barksdale Senior Center. After 63 years of service, Bryan is retiring from her role as a legislative aide.
Bryan began her career with the city at age 18, choosing to join the municipal workforce after submitting applications to both the City of Tampa and Busch Gardens. The city responded first, and she remained in public service for more than six decades.
Throughout her tenure, Bryan worked in several departments including housing, code enforcement, zoning, and the city attorney’s office. Most recently, she served alongside City Councilman Charlie Miranda. She has worked under 11 mayors and with 59 city council members during her time with the city.
The celebration will feature tributes from both city and county leaders as well as reflections from family, friends, and colleagues who have worked closely with Bryan.
“Mary was just 18 when she applied for her first job. She submitted two applications that day — one to the City of Tampa and the other to Busch Gardens. The City called first. She stayed for more than six decades.”
“Mary has served in numerous roles over the years, including positions in the housing, code enforcement and zoning departments, followed by the city attorney’s office and, most recently, working alongside City Councilman Charlie Miranda. She has served under 11 mayors and 59 city council members. Mary is known as a resource for residents in need of help, the decorator of Old City Hall during the holidays, and a steady, consistent figure serving City Council.”
Her contributions include assisting residents seeking help from local government and decorating Old City Hall during holiday seasons.
Media representatives are invited to attend this event honoring Bryan’s long-standing commitment to public service.
