Tampa City Councilman Luis Viera will host the city’s annual National Purple Heart Day Flag Raising Ceremony on Thursday, August 7, at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place outside Old City Hall at the corner of E Kennedy Blvd and N Franklin St.

The event is organized to recognize the sacrifices made by U.S. military service members who were wounded or killed in combat. During the ceremony, the Purple Heart flag will be raised. Councilman Viera, veterans, and family members of Purple Heart recipients are expected to speak.

National Purple Heart Day is observed every year on August 7 to mark the creation of the Purple Heart medal in 1782 by General George Washington.

Media representatives have been invited to attend and are asked to RSVP.
