The Daytona Aquarium & Rainforest Adventure has expanded with the opening of its new rainforest section, marking a significant addition to Daytona Beach’s first aquarium. The recently opened area features a range of mammals and exotic birds, including toucans, sloths, otters, and tamarins.
The 55,000 square-foot aquarium facility initially opened last year and offers over 50 exhibits. Highlights include a 110,000-gallon shark tank and a stingray touch pool holding 10,000 gallons. The aquarium will continue to provide updates about the official rainforest opening date through its website and social media channels.
The Marine Science Center in Daytona Beach reopened on June 24 after undergoing a $4.2 million renovation that began in September of the previous year. The project led to improvements in marine exhibits, expanded educational facilities, and upgraded amenities for visitors. The center was closed for about nine months during renovations and now features new attractions aimed at increasing public knowledge of marine ecosystems.
The Mary McLeod Bethune Home & Gravesite has also reopened following a two-and-a-half-year renovation. As a National Historic Landmark, it serves as both the residence and final resting place of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune—civil rights leader, educator, and founder of Bethune-Cookman University. The site contains artifacts and photographs of notable visitors and U.S. presidents and is located on the grounds of Bethune-Cookman University.
