Duke Energy Florida has announced a new initiative to provide immediate savings for income-qualified customers through its Clean Energy Connection program. The program is available to customers who participate in Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-EBT), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), or the Duke Energy Neighborhood Energy Saver.
The company operates 10 Clean Energy Connection solar sites across Florida, generating a combined 749 megawatts of carbon-free electricity at peak output. This capacity is enough to power about 230,000 homes in the state.
Customers who qualify can subscribe to the program by paying a fixed monthly fee of $8.35 per kilowatt-hour. In return, they receive a credit of $9.03 per kilowatt-hour on their energy bill. This structure ensures that subscribers save money from the first month and continue to benefit as long as they remain enrolled.
“Through Duke Energy Florida’s Clean Energy Connection program, income-qualified customers can receive guaranteed savings, while also supporting solar energy – without any of the traditional equipment or costs,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “There’s no risk, and the reward is instant, which is why we encourage all eligible customers to consider enrolling today.”
Both homeowners and renters are eligible for the program. There are no upfront costs or enrollment fees, and participants do not need to install or maintain any equipment. Customers may cancel after the first month if they choose and can stay subscribed if they move within Duke Energy Florida’s service area.
Duke Energy Florida supplies electricity to two million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across a 13,000-square-mile area in Florida. Its parent company, Duke Energy, serves 8.4 million electric utility customers across six states and owns more than 54,800 megawatts of energy capacity nationwide.
For more information about enrollment and eligibility for both income-qualified and other residential or business customers, details are available on Duke Energy’s website.
