BayCare has announced that 11 of its acute-care hospitals have received an “A” rating in the Fall 2025 Hospital Safety Grades, a program run by The Leapfrog Group. The nonprofit organization evaluates nearly 3,000 general hospitals across the United States for patient safety, analyzing data related to infections, accidents, injuries, and errors.
The Leapfrog Group releases its hospital safety grades twice a year. These grades range from “A” to “F” and are based on more than 30 national performance measures collected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), results from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, and other supplemental sources. According to Leapfrog, their grading system is peer-reviewed, transparent, and accessible to the public at no cost.
The BayCare hospitals recognized with an “A” include BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel in Wesley Chapel; Bartow Regional Medical Center in Bartow; Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor; Mease Dunedin Hospital in Dunedin; Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater; Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey; St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg; St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa; St. Joseph’s Hospital-North in Lutz; St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview; and Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven.
Dr. Laura Arline, MD, FACP, FAAP, BayCare’s chief quality officer stated: “BayCare’s outstanding Fall 2025 Leapfrog Safety Grades reflect our daily commitment to protect patients and deliver the highest standards of care. This achievement demonstrates what’s possible when every team member, physician and advanced practice provider takes ownership of safety and is a testament to our shared focus on ZERO HARM.”
The Leapfrog Group notes that its safety grade program is unique as it focuses exclusively on preventable medical errors and conditions that can result in harm or death.
