Construction is progressing on the new East Tampa/Fair Oaks Recreation Complex as crews demolished the original Fair Oaks Park building this week. The redevelopment and expansion of the 10.25-acre site began in April 2024 and will feature a 33,000-square-foot facility with amenities such as classroom space for senior and youth programs, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, pickleball courts, a multi-purpose sports field, walking trails, and a splash pad.

The total cost of the project is about $34.7 million. The main building is expected to open to the public this fall with additional outdoor features opening in phases.

East Tampa has also seen investment in other city facilities, including the recently completed City Center at Hanna Avenue. This 160,000-square-foot center brings together several city departments and public services in one location. These projects are part of efforts to promote economic development and improve services for neighborhoods that have been historically underserved.

The combined investments aim to support community growth and provide more resources for local residents.
