The Florida Medical Association (FMA) has announced a series of upcoming initiatives and events aimed at supporting women in the medical profession. One such event is a continuing medical education (CME) webinar titled “From Barely Surviving to Thriving,” scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26, at noon Eastern Time. The webinar is part of several educational programs developed by the FMA’s Women in Medicine Committee.

“I’m so appreciative that the FMA Board of Governors (BOG) created a Women in Medicine Committee to support the needs of our women physician members,” said Rebekah Bernard, MD, an FMA BOG member who serves as committee chair. “Studies show that women physicians have a higher rate of burnout than our male colleagues, and of even greater concern, a 24-percent greater chance of suicide than the general population.”

Dr. Bernard emphasized the FMA’s commitment to assisting women physicians in their practice.

Additional events are planned for later in the year. On Friday, April 4, the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville will host the Women in Medicine & Science Conference at the Mariott Jacksonville. Registration details will be shared through future editions of FMA News.

Another major event is the 2025 South Florida Women Physicians Retreat on Saturday, May 3, at the Hyatt House in Naples. This retreat is organized by several local medical societies including Broward, Collier, Dade, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Palm Beach, and Sarasota counties. Attendees can expect presentations, group discussions, lunch and an evening reception.
