The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved a rate adjustment for Tampa Electric Company (TECO) to take effect in 2026. The decision, announced on November 4, 2025, allows TECO to increase its base rates to cover the costs of projects that were completed or are expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

This approval follows TECO’s previous base rate case in 2024, where the Commission authorized a revenue requirement increase of $87.7 million for new projects scheduled for service in 2025. TECO submitted a petition on September 4, 2025, requesting permission for the Subsequent Year Adjustment (SYA) to reflect additional costs and investments.

With this adjustment, residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will see their typical monthly bill rise by $5.51—from $97.47 to $102.98—starting with the first billing cycle in January 2026.

The SYA covers cost recovery for several major initiatives: the Polk 1 Flexibility Project, expansion of energy storage capacity, development of corporate headquarters, modernization of the Bearss Operations Center, resilience improvements in South Tampa, GRR (PLTE Spectrum) upgrades, and two solar projects at Cottonmouth and Longbranch. Two unit upgrades as part of the Polk Fuel Diversity Project are also expected to begin operation in 2026.

TECO provides electric service to about 844,000 customers across Hillsborough County and parts of Polk, Pasco, and Pinellas counties within a territory covering roughly 2,000 square miles.
