The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will open a hearing on August 11 to consider Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) request for a base rate increase. The hearing will give FPL and other parties the opportunity to present sworn testimony and exhibits supporting their positions.
FPL submitted its petition for a rate increase to the PSC on February 28. Earlier this year, the Commission held nine service hearings, including two virtual sessions and seven in-person events, where customers shared feedback about FPL’s quality of service and the proposed rate changes. FPL currently supplies electricity to six million retail customers across Northwest and peninsular Florida.
The main hearing will take place at the Betty Easley Conference Center in Tallahassee, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on August 11. Additional dates—August 12–15 and August 18–22—have been set aside if more time is needed. The schedule for each subsequent day will be announced at the end of each session.
A live broadcast of the proceedings will be available through the PSC’s website by selecting “Watch Live and Archived PSC Events” from the homepage, and may also air on the Florida Channel depending on local listings.
