The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is inviting county and specialty medical societies to nominate eligible physicians for its reference committees. The deadline for nominations is set for 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 9.

Reference committees play a role in the FMA’s House of Delegates (HOD) process. Each committee consists of at least five voting HOD members who are not current FMA officers or Board of Governors (BOG) members. The FMA Speaker and Vice Speaker select committee members, who conduct open hearings on proposed resolutions before these resolutions are brought to the full HOD during the Annual Meeting.

After gathering direct feedback on each resolution, committee members deliberate privately and decide as a group on their recommendations. These are then presented in detailed reports to the HOD. If a resolution passes through the House and is adopted by the BOG, it becomes official FMA policy.

Online testimony will be available for delegates from Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. ET until Thursday, July 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Delegates can submit testimony on any properly filed resolution and must state whether they support or oppose each resolution.

Reference committees will meet in executive session during the week starting Monday, July 7, to prepare their reports. These reports will be published online before the Annual Meeting begins on Friday, July 25. Delegates can debate the recommendations during in-person reference committee hearings scheduled for Saturday, July 26.
