The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has elected Commissioner Gabriella Passidomo Smith as its next Chairman. The unanimous decision was announced in Tallahassee, with Passidomo Smith set to begin her two-year term on January 2, 2026. She was first appointed to the FPSC in 2021 and is currently serving a term that extends through 2027.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to serve as Chairman,” said Chairman-Elect Passidomo Smith. “The Commission’s work directly impacts millions of Floridians, and I look forward to leading with transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring reliable service and fair rates as our state continues to grow.”
Passidomo Smith is active in national regulatory circles. She serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), representing the Southeastern region on various committees focused on energy reliability, safety, and infrastructure planning. Her roles include participation in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission/NARUC Federal and State Current Issues Collaborative, the Committee on Electricity, the Committee on Gas, the Gas Subcommittee on Pipeline Safety, and the Task Force on Gas Planning. She was also recently named First Vice President of the SEARUC Executive Committee.
Before joining the FPSC as a commissioner, Passidomo Smith worked within its Office of General Counsel where she provided legal analysis and recommendations related to regulatory matters.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Florida (cum laude), a Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law, is a member of the Florida Bar, and has earned an MBA from Florida State University.
