Local entrepreneurs Brian and Elizabeth McCadie have introduced a new attraction in Islamorada, Florida Keys, with the launch of Transparensea, a glass bottom boat that offers both day and night excursions from Robbie’s Marina.
Brian McCadie, who has experience as a U.S. Coast Guard fishing charter captain, developed the concept to provide visitors with an alternative way to observe marine life in the area. His wife Elizabeth supported the venture after their previous collaborations at Robbie’s Marina. Following significant planning and research, Transparensea is now available for public tours.
The vessel measures 46 feet in length and features 16 window wells for underwater viewing. It can accommodate up to 30 passengers and includes amenities such as comfortable seating, a restroom, and Seakeeper technology designed to minimize seasickness. Notably, it is equipped with an underwater lighting system that allows guests to view marine creatures at night—a first for glass bottom boats operating in the United States.
“Our goal was to create something families could enjoy after dark,” said Brian McCadie. “The lights make such a difference, and the sea life is more active at night—this is truly a one-of-a-kind experience in The Keys.”
During trips on Transparensea, guides provide narrated tours through coral-rich areas including Cheeca Rocks, Caloosa Rocks, and Alligator Reef. These routes are selected to give guests close views of local marine species while avoiding busier boating locations.
Transparensea operates daily except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Two-hour tours depart at noon and 3 p.m., while night trips begin approximately 20 minutes after sunset. Further details about scheduling or booking can be found on www.glassbottomtour.com or by calling 305-21-GLASS.
