The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has issued a statement honoring veterans on Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. The message, signed by IAM International President Brian Bryant, recognizes the service and sacrifices made by veterans and their families.

In his message, Bryant expressed appreciation for those who have served: “We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us.”

Bryant also highlighted how veterans continue to contribute after their military service. “The same dedication that drives our veterans to defend our nation is what motivates them to build a better future for working families when they return home. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen our union and inspire everyone to keep fighting for dignity, justice, and respect at work,” he said.

This year marks a significant achievement for IAM through its Veterans Services Program. The union became the first labor organization officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). According to Bryant, “This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a strong advocate to help them navigate the system they have honorably earned.”

Bryant concluded his message with thanks: “To all IAM veterans and every veteran: Thank you! Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never be able to fully repay the sacrifice you have made, but we can—and must—honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring that every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”

On behalf of the entire IAM Executive Council, Bryant paid tribute to all veterans.
