The IAM Local 2198 Young Workers Committee held its first Dora Cervantes Bowling Fundraiser to support Guide Dogs of America – Tender Loving Canines (GDA/TLC). The event gathered members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), their families, and community supporters for a day focused on raising funds and building solidarity.
The fundraiser was organized in recognition of IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes, highlighting her dedication to GDA/TLC and efforts to encourage leadership among younger union members.
“It’s deeply moving to see young members take the initiative to give back in such a meaningful way,” said Cervantes. “This charity has always represented compassion and purpose, and our IAM family continues to make sure that mission thrives.”
Funds raised from the event will go directly to GDA/TLC. The organization provides service dogs at no cost to veterans, people who are blind or visually impaired, and children with autism.
“Our young workers are showing what the future of this union looks like: strong, compassionate, and community-minded,” said IAM Women’s and Young Workers Director Julie Frietchen. “They’re carrying forward the IAM’s legacy of service and solidarity while creating their own path of leadership.”
The committee intends for the bowling fundraiser to become an annual event, aiming to increase awareness and support for GDA/TLC’s programs in the coming years.
