The State University System of Florida (SUS) is marking National Transfer Student Week by highlighting the contributions and achievements of more than 55,000 transfer students enrolled at its institutions. The SUS has implemented the 2+2 Targeted Pathway program, which allows students to earn an associate degree at a state college and guarantees them admission to a partner university to complete their four-year degree.

“In partnership with the Florida College System, the State University System of Florida is dedicated to upholding our commitment of excellence to all 2+2 transfer students,” said SUS Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Emily Sikes. “By establishing 2+2 Targeted Pathway programs at our institutions, our System is setting a high standard of excellence for transfer student success.”

State law requires all public universities in Florida to participate in the 2+2 Targeted Pathway. This initiative involves agreements between Florida Colleges and state universities, ensuring that students from the college system have guaranteed access to complete their bachelor’s degrees at a university. Currently, there are nearly 40 partnership pathway agreements across the 12 SUS institutions.

The program has shown significant results. At several universities—including Florida State University (FSU), University of South Florida (USF), Florida International University (FIU), and Florida A&M University (FAMU)—at least 40 percent of 2+2 transfer students graduate within two years. Additionally, more than 70 percent of these students graduate within three years at FSU, FIU, USF, and Florida Atlantic University (FAU).

Transfer student programs within the SUS provide various services and resources. These include advisors located on college partner campuses, opportunities for students to connect with peers and faculty in their chosen major, support from both peers and transfer coaches, and efforts to encourage timely completion of both associate and bachelor’s degrees.
