City officials in Tampa have begun construction on the Residences at East End, a new affordable housing project in East Tampa. The development is part of ongoing efforts by the Castor Administration to address increasing rental costs and a shortage of housing in the city.
The project will consist of 174 units for residents earning between 22% and 80% of the area median income. For a family of four, this means an annual income ranging from about $32,000 to $83,000. The City of Tampa purchased the land specifically for affordable housing development and formed a public-private partnership with Related Urban Group to move forward with the plan.
Funding for the project includes a $9 million contribution from Florida’s State Apartment Incentive Loan program, with the city providing a $75,000 local match. Additionally, 43 units will be supported by Section 8 Project-Based Vouchers from the Tampa Housing Authority.
“Breaking ground on the Residences at East End marks another critical step in our commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable Tampa,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “This part of Tampa has long faced a shortage of quality, attainable housing, and this project brings real, lasting solutions for families who deserve the opportunity to live in safe, vibrant neighborhoods. We’re proud to partner with Related Urban, the Tampa Housing Authority, and so many others who share our vision of a walkable, diverse community that serves every resident.”
The new complex will include five residential buildings featuring two-bedroom/two-bathroom units. Amenities planned for residents include a dog park, picnic areas, fitness center, and pocket park.
Alberto Milo Jr., president of Related Urban Development Group, stated: “The Residences at East End is an opportunity to create stability and a foundation for growth for families in East Tampa. Through this partnership with the City of Tampa and THA, we are building attainable, high-quality homes where residents can thrive near key schools, jobs and community resources. This project is yet another example of Related Urban’s ongoing commitment to Tampa, where we continue to invest in neighborhoods, support families and strengthen communities across the city.”
Construction is expected to be completed by late 2026.
