The City of Tampa’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) received four awards at the 43rd Annual Planning & Design Awards hosted by The Planning Commission. The event highlights projects that improve quality of life, support economic growth, and protect the area’s natural and historic features.
The CRA was recognized for several initiatives. The Kid Mason Community Center Renovations in the Downtown CRA earned the Planning & Design Award of Excellence in the Entertainment Category. This project aimed to create an inclusive space for youth programs, recreation, and community gatherings while honoring Tampa’s Central Park history.
The Skills Center in East Tampa received the Planning & Design Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community in the Investment Category. It offers opportunities for learning, leadership development, and engagement for local youth and families.
In Ybor City, the Historic 7th Avenue Bricking Project won both a Planning & Design Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community and the Jan Abell Award in Historic Preservation. The project restored brick streets on 7th Avenue, maintaining Ybor City’s character while upgrading infrastructure.
Union Station Improvements in Downtown Tampa were also honored with a Planning & Design Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community in Historic Preservation. The improvements included work on the main lobby’s internal façade, completed with Friends of Tampa Union Station.
“The CRA’s mission is to create thriving, equitable, and vibrant communities across Tampa,” said CRA Director Cedric McCray. “These awards are a reflection of our continued commitment to preserving our city’s history, investing in our neighborhoods, and building spaces that bring people together.”
The annual awards recognize projects that exemplify sustainable development throughout Hillsborough County.
