A 38-year-old man has been charged by the Tampa Police Department after an incident that ended in a prolonged standoff on August 18, 2025. Ryan Haley faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling.

According to police, Haley, who had previously been in a relationship with the victim, entered her home on the 100 block of W. Giddens Ave. without permission. He left when ordered out by the victim and her companion.

About half an hour later, authorities say Haley found the two at a nearby restaurant. He allegedly approached their vehicle, brandished a firearm, and jumped onto the hood while shouting obscenities. The victims reported that Haley pointed the gun at them, making them fear for their lives. They were able to drive away safely as Haley slid off their car and fled to his own vehicle.

Police attempted to stop Haley in the 4700 block of W. Estrella Ave., where he reportedly made suicidal threats. This led to an hours-long standoff with law enforcement.

“The responding officers applied their de-escalation and negotiation training with great skill during a lengthy standoff, prioritizing the safety of not only the community, but also the subject himself,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Their expertise ensured a peaceful resolution to a very dangerous situation. Our department is committed to making Tampa a safe place, and this incident is a testament to the effectiveness of that training.”

The standoff ended without further incident and Haley was taken into custody before being transported to Orient Road Jail.
