Following Tampa’s first-ever recorded 100-degree day on July 27, the City of Tampa has opened cooling stations in response to continued extreme heat. The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for the area, with temperatures expected to stay in the upper 90s and heat indexes between 106 and 112 degrees.

The city is offering cooling stations at Barksdale Adult Activity Center, George Bartholomew Center, and Cuscaden Pool. These facilities are open Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Tuesday through Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The cooling stations provide air-conditioned spaces for residents who need relief from high temperatures.

Residents can receive real-time updates, safety tips, and emergency notifications by texting HEATSAFE to 888-777.

“Cooling Stations are open to all residents, especially those without access to air conditioning, and offer a safe, air-conditioned space to cool down.”
