Tampa Police arrested a man following a crash and shooting incident that occurred Wednesday morning near the westbound exit of the Selmon Expressway onto East Kennedy Boulevard.
According to authorities, officers responded at approximately 8:05 a.m. to reports of a multi-vehicle collision. The investigation determined that Kevin Arriola, identified as the driver of a 2010 gray Mazda 3, was driving erratically on the exit ramp before crashing into several vehicles.
After exiting his vehicle, Arriola allegedly fired shots at a 2017 red Chrysler 300. No serious injuries were reported from either the gunfire or the crashes.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office located Arriola not far from the scene and detained him. Tampa Police then took custody of Arriola and continued their investigation.
“This was an extremely dangerous and senseless situation that could have easily resulted in tragedy,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We are grateful for our strong partnership with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the actions of the deputies who quickly took the suspect into custody before anyone was seriously hurt.”
Arriola faces charges including First Degree Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Shooting at/into a Vehicle.
The investigation remains active, and police stated additional information may be released as it becomes available.
