Tampa Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Monday, October 20, 2025, near North 50th Street and East 30th Avenue. The incident took place around 8:00 p.m. when a woman in her mid-40s was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling southbound on N. 50th St. The driver of the vehicle left the scene. A second vehicle also struck the victim but the driver stopped, called emergency services, and cooperated with the investigation.
Detectives began their investigation by collecting evidence from the scene, including vehicle parts believed to be from the passenger-side mirror of a gray Volkswagen Tiguan manufactured between 2018 and 2024. Surveillance footage from the area showed a Volkswagen Tiguan with damage that matched the crash.
On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, a Tampa Police officer saw a gray Volkswagen Tiguan with similar damage at an ATM near West Hillsborough Avenue and North Armenia Avenue. Officers found the driver, identified as Jeramey Sanders, age 30, at a nearby store and detained him. The damage to the vehicle was confirmed to match evidence from the crash site. A Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles inquiry found that Sanders’ Florida driver’s license was suspended.
Sanders was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and violation of financial responsibility law. He was taken to Orient Road Jail and his vehicle was impounded.
“The quick work of detectives and the attentiveness of patrol officers led to a swift arrest in this tragic case,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We hope that this timely resolution provides the victim’s family with a first step toward closure during this incredibly difficult time.”
