The Tampa Police Athletic League (PAL) will hold a two-day basketball tournament featuring players aged 12 to 14, coached by officers from the Tampa Police Department. The event aims to demonstrate the value of mentorship and community engagement.
“This basketball tournament is a literal example of community policing in action,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “It is also a chance for the community to come out and see, firsthand, the positive role models in our police department and the incredible impact they are having on the lives of these young players.”
According to organizers, the tournament goes beyond competition by providing an opportunity for youth to interact with police officers in a supportive setting. Officers serve as mentors, helping participants develop both athletic and life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The playoffs are scheduled for Tuesday, August 5 at 6:30 p.m., with championships set for Thursday, August 7 at 7:15 p.m. Both events will take place at PAL Tampa, located at 1924 W. Diana St., Tampa. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. each day.
Admission is free and open to all members of the public. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase from the concession stand during both days of the tournament.
