In the early morning hours of September 13, 2025, Tampa Police Department officers and Florida Highway Patrol troopers worked together to stop a wrong-way driver on Interstate 4. The incident began when police received a report just before 2:30 AM about a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes at around 60 miles per hour.
Officers quickly located the car, a silver Toyota Camry, and attempted to pull it over. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Kristian Beall, did not comply and continued driving, narrowly missing a marked police vehicle. Both agencies coordinated their response to prevent potential harm to other motorists.
An FHP trooper first tried a tactical maneuver to stop the vehicle without success. Tampa Police then performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, which brought the car to a halt. The Camry was boxed in by both Tampa Police and FHP vehicles.
After being stopped, Beall failed a field sobriety test. Her breath alcohol content measured .199 and .202—over twice Florida’s legal limit of 0.08 for drivers.
Beall was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (BAC over 0.15), Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, and Fleeing to Elude at High Speed. She was taken to Orient Road Jail.
“I am incredibly proud of the quick and decisive action taken by our officers and our partners at the Florida Highway Patrol,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Their seamless collaboration and dedication to public safety allowed them to stop this individual before there were serious, if not fatal, injuries. This is a perfect example of how our partnerships are vital in keeping our community safe.”
“There is absolutely no excuse for driving under the influence,” added Chief Bercaw. “There are many safe and affordable alternatives available, including ride-sharing services, taxis, and designating a sober driver. If you choose to have adult beverages, make the right choice to protect yourself and everyone else on the road.”
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement agencies in Tampa to address impaired driving incidents through joint operations.
