The Tampa Police Department has announced its participation in a statewide campaign aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities involving pedestrians and bicyclists. The effort, which will continue through May 2026, is being carried out in partnership with the Institute for Police Technology and Management (IPTM) and the University of North Florida (UNF).
The initiative will see an increased police presence on Tampa’s roads as officers conduct targeted enforcement and educational outreach. The goal is to raise awareness about Florida’s traffic laws and promote safety among all road users.
“This campaign is about saving lives and preventing tragedies before they happen,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “By educating roadway users and enforcing traffic laws, we hope to create safer streets for everyone in our community.”
Police will focus their efforts on several high-traffic areas within the city, including East Busch Boulevard, West Hillsborough Avenue, North Nebraska Avenue, East Fowler Avenue, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, West Kennedy Boulevard, North Florida Avenue, North and South Dale Mabry Highway, and the Downtown Area.
The campaign is part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow initiative. It is funded through a contract with FDOT and IPTM. The program emphasizes education and enforcement in locations with a history of severe crashes to help prevent future incidents.
