Tampa has been identified as one of the fastest-growing mid-sized economies in the United States, according to a recent national study by CoworkingCafe. The report ranked Tampa second among mid-sized cities for economic growth between 2019 and 2023.

The study found that over four years, Tampa’s gross domestic product increased by 43 percent. During this period, the average income in Tampa rose by 38 percent, with only New York City showing a higher rate of wage growth. Additionally, Tampa nearly doubled its exports, with a 93 percent increase in goods sold internationally, reflecting stronger ties to the global market.

Other findings from the report show that business activity is expanding rapidly in Tampa, with new business applications up by 71 percent. The city also experienced a decrease in unemployment by two percent and an increase in employment rates by two percent.

“These results confirm what we already know – Tampa is on the rise,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “Our city is growing stronger every day, from creating good-paying jobs to attracting global investment. Tampa is proving to be one of the best places to live, work, and build a future.”

The CoworkingCafe study also recognized St. Petersburg as fourth among mid-sized cities and Clearwater as sixth among small cities for economic growth. This positions the broader Tampa Bay region as one of the leading areas for economic performance nationwide.
