The City of Tampa has announced the graduation of its Green Team, a group of nine individuals who completed over 1,700 service hours each during the 2024-2025 program year. The ceremony took place at the Seminole Garden Center on July 31.
Throughout the past year, members of the Green Team planted 375 trees and more than 9,400 plants. They also removed over 49,000 pounds of litter and debris from city parks and waterways. In addition to these efforts, they provided environmental education to more than 4,500 residents and youth.
Mayor Jane Castor commented on their work: “Our Green Team tackled some of the hardest, dirtiest work out there — planting trees, cleaning up trash, and making Tampa a cleaner, greener place for everyone to enjoy. Their efforts are exactly what we need to strengthen our city’s ecosystem, improve air and water quality long term, and help us prepare for any environmental challenges ahead.”
Several team members earned certifications such as the Urban Agriculture Specialist Certification. The group also contributed to various city initiatives including hurricane response in 2024.
Photos documenting their activities throughout the year and from the graduation event were made available by the city.
