The U.S. Census Bureau has published its latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for July 2025, offering updated information on new business applications and formations across the United States. The BFS are a regular data product from the Census Bureau, developed in partnership with economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

According to the agency, “The BFS provide timely and high frequency information on new business applications and formations in the United States.” The dataset is released monthly and covers all 12 series—four application series and eight formation series—with statistics available at national, regional, and state levels. Both seasonally adjusted and nonseasonally adjusted data are included.

In addition to nationwide figures, this month’s release features Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications as an experimental data product. This new addition includes four monthly business application series for Puerto Rico using the same methodology as existing BFS reports.

No formal news release accompanied this announcement; only a tip sheet was provided by the Census Bureau.
