Interns at the University of South Florida (USF) played a significant role in documenting and sharing one of the most memorable moments in Bulls football history. During USF’s 18–16 upset over then-No. 13 University of Florida on September 6 in Gainesville, student interns used photography, video, and social media to capture the excitement.

A photograph by USF Athletics intern Aschley Joseph, showing kicker Nico Grammatica being lifted by teammates after his game-winning field goal with stunned Gators fans in the background, gained national attention. “To document something that connects people to it forever is such an honor,” said Joseph. “It’s something I’ll never forget.”

The work of these interns extended beyond still images. Martin Salamone, USF’s senior associate athletic director for external affairs, highlighted their contributions: “Our student interns are essential to capturing and preserving the moments that define game day. Their work during the win over Florida, whether shooting photos and video or supporting our social channels, helped bring Bulls Nation even closer to the action. In the process, they’re gaining invaluable hands-on experience, while experiencing memories they’ll carry forever.”

Among those using unconventional tools was Clark Stanton, a senior digital communications and multimedia journalism major who filmed sideline footage with a Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming system. His video went viral after being posted on X and Instagram and was featured by outlets such as ESPN and Bleacher Report. Stanton explained his approach: “We’re giving fans sideline access,” he said. “It’s a view they cannot get from watching on television.” He alternates between using an iPhone and the DS for filming. “It works great,” Stanton said. “So why not?”

Memes also played a part in spreading excitement online. Naomi Galloway, a sophomore business advertising major interning with USF Athletics, creates memes based on key moments from games to engage fans after victories. Her posts typically reach around 100,000 views each week. Galloway described her creative process: “I want to make something that helps people remember a big moment,” she said. She customizes popular meme formats or invents original ones related to game events.

Reflecting on her photographic work during the game-winning kick, Joseph emphasized capturing emotion: “Anyone can get a shot of a field goal. But can you also capture how that kick made people feel? I want the photo to show what the moment meant.” She added that sometimes luck plays a role in getting iconic images.

For these students, participating in this historic victory provided professional experience while allowing them to contribute lasting memories for Bulls fans.
