David MacNeil, the billionaire founder of WeatherTech and a major Republican donor, sold his waterfront mansion in Fort Lauderdale for $34 million, according to an April 13 report. The sale price reflects a significant reduction from its original listing price of $50 million in 2024.
The property at 84 Isla Bahia Drive was first reported as sold by the New York Post, though public records have not yet confirmed the transaction. The identity of the buyer has not been disclosed. Chad Carroll with Compass represented the seller, while Brett Bass with Bass Realty and Investments brought in the buyer.
MacNeil established WeatherTech, a car accessories company, in 1989 and now has an estimated net worth of $4 billion and a car collection valued at $400 million, according to Forbes. He is also known for his investments in South Florida real estate. In recent years, he purchased several properties including an oceanfront compound at 1120 South Ocean Boulevard in Manalapan for $38.5 million in 2024 and adjacent estates totaling more than $160 million spent within that enclave.
MacNeil has donated at least $3 million to support President Donald Trump since 2016—contributions include funding Trump’s inauguration and donations during the recent election cycle. In January, Trump nominated MacNeil to serve as chair of the Federal Trade Commission; his appointment is currently awaiting confirmation.
The half-acre Fort Lauderdale property was acquired by MacNeil for $5.5 million in 2013 before he built an approximately 11,700-square-foot mansion on it seven years later. The home features five bedrooms, eight bathrooms plus one half-bathroom, and about 300 feet of waterfront access.
This transaction follows other high-value sales in Fort Lauderdale’s luxury market which saw rapid growth during the pandemic but now faces slower activity and increased need for price reductions to complete deals.
